All it takes is One.

All it takes is one verse

“Simon Peter, a servant and an apostle of Jesus Christ, to them that have obtained like precious faith with us through the righteousness of God and our Saviour Jesus Christ:”

2 Peter 1:1 KJV

The book of Peter was written by the Apostle Simon Peter around 64 AD, before he was martyred by King Nero in 68 AD. Peter who is introduced as “a servant (one who gives himself up to another’s will , those whose service is used by Christ in extending and advancing his cause among men) and an apostle (a delegate, messenger, one sent forth with orders), of Jesus Christ. Peter, who is a servant messenger, wrote this letter “to them that have obtained like precious faith with us through the righteousness of God and our Saviour Jesus Christ.”

Is it written to just those that have obtained? Are we to read this letter as just what he wrote to people of that time, or should we read as it was written directly to us, by the messenger with orders from Jesus Christ, Amen. To us because we “have obtained”, received by divine allotment, chosen to receive by the casting of lots; which are pebbles used for systematically making decisions. Casting lots which is the act of using stones to make a decision, like plucking a daisy and/or (because sometimes we have to check twice) flipping a coin, when we used to leave things up to chance. We didn’t trust Jesus, or most likely didn’t know him at all, we let a stone make a decision for us.

Lot is also a word for portion; which means recompense; compensation or reward given for loss or harm suffered, or retribution; punishment inflicted on someone as vengeance for a wrong or criminal act. “The LORD is my portion, saith my soul; Therefore will I hope in him.” Lamentations 3:24 KJV. So by not trusting in Jesus we cast a lot and put our faith in a pebble instead of The Stone, by casting a lot without care one could be tossing away their lot or portion, which is our reward for Jesus paying the price for our sin. (“And they cast lots for them, and the lot fell on Matthias, and he was numbered with the eleven apostles.” Acts 1:26 ESV casting a lot isn’t always void of Gods intervention, goes to show there are no absolutes when it comes to our reason, casting a lot is an action that seems to be taking a chance but is it truly) This was inserted months after original writing. Understanding and growth is a constant process.

Rejoice that Jesus is not like us, and us “obtaining like precious faith” doesn’t happen by chance. “For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.” Ephesians 2:10 KJV. We have received our portion by divine allotment, which is the amount of something ALLOCATED; distribute resources or duties for a particular purpose, to a particular person. Simon Peter who was ordered by Jesus, wrote a letter to all; past, present, future, who (particular person) have been chosen (for a particular purpose) by the Casting Stone, Jesus Christ, amen.

If you are receiving this letter, what else have you obtained? So far we have obtained Jesus Christ and a letter from him but wait, there’s more (little salesman pitch) “Like precious faith” has also come into our lives. Like, equally precious, equally honored, to be esteemed equal to, precious faith which is of great value; not to be wasted or treated carelessly, amen. Faith which is the conviction of truth, and trust in God or in Christ with faithfulness of continual loyalty and support. And with this you are not alone.

Its written to Those who have received equally precious faith with us? If Peter is writing this letter how can there be an us? Can’t only one person write a letter? As said before Peter is a slave to the will of Jesus Christ. Us is then Simon Peter and Jesus? Yes and no, us is those that have received and will receive Jesus, equally as one. As Paul stated in 1 Corinthians 1:13 “Is Christ divided? was Paul crucified for you? or were ye baptized in the name of Paul?” No, “There is one body, and one Spirit, even as ye are called in one hope of your calling; one Lord, one faith, one baptism,” Ephesians 4:4-5 KJV. This letter was written with one man’s hand in service to Jesus, to all those who have or will receive Jesus, so if you a receiving this message I have good news, amen.

The good news is that “through the righteousness of God and Jesus Christ” you have received Jesus. If you are receiving this message and feel it in your heart, you were chosen from before time began by the Casting Stone.

“But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his own possession, that you may proclaim the excellencies of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light.”
‭‭1 Peter‬ ‭2‬:‭9‬ ‭ESV‬‬

Amen.

Before this letter was written, you were chosen to receive it. In equal time that those who received this letter from Simon Peter, you have also received it. You, the new creation in Jesus Christ now a slave to his will. Again I read, “For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.” Ephesians 2:10 KJV. Everything that will be done, has been done already. To those who worry about what your works will be or fear if you will do them , fear not for they have already been done through Jesus. “But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.” Matthew 6:33 KJV. To those who worry about the problems you may have, they have already been solved through Jesus. “That which hath been is now; and that which is to be hath already been; and God requireth that which is past.” Ecclesiastes 3:1-15 KJV. God has taken care of every worry or fear and all he asks for in return is, “that which is past”, for us to follow Him.

Now that we have received the message in the first verse, let us move on to receive the rest message from Simeon Peter. The rest of this message is concerning our problems we may face on the inside along our walk. Let us learn how to keep a closer watch on our personal lives as well pursuing the characteristics or virtues that come with living a righteous life. “All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: that the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works.” 2 Timothy 3:16-17 KJV. I pray we all continue receiving guidance from God to walk in His will so that we do not waste the precious gift that has been given to us through the sacrifice of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. To Him be the glory now and forever, Amen.

2 Peter 1:2 “Grace and peace be multiplied unto you through the knowledge of God, and of Jesus our Lord,”

The second verse affirms that if we study Gods word and learn who He is, that through this knowledge, grace and peace will abound within us. I feel the more I study and learn Gods word, the more I gain confidence I am following Gods will for my life. I become more faithful in my first instinct because its no longer my instinct. Before, my first instinct was my own and was what led me down a dark path but back then I had zero knowledge of our Lord and Saviour. I believe that grace and peace is multiplied on us when we can rest in the Lord that He is making the decisions in our lives now, for us and by us trusting in Him. We trust in Him by filtering all our thoughts and decisions through his word, which then is not us but the Holy Spirit working within us. The more one reads and replaces previous knowledge with that of the word, the more the Bible becomes one’s conscience.

Do you ask yourself when making decisions, what is Gods will for me to do?

How often do you follow through with that decision?

Also in this verse, my bible references Daniel 4:1 King Nebuchadnezzer is blessing peace upon all people, nations and languages. Next verse King Nebuchadnezzar feels he should show the signs and wonders God has “wrought toward” him. Through reading and gaining knowledge of God we see miracles after miracles that God has performed, we also see how His power is glorified also through his wrath. We know the Bible to be true, all these events occurred and people forgot Him. Now here we are 2000 years from the greatest miracle, and He is more forgotten than any other time. Now filtering the world through His eyes what do we see. Hate like never before with division across endless agendas, wars for reasons nobody knows and will only be remembered by which side is writing the history books, greed and prices for a soul have gone up, and most are afraid to say hello or interact with a stranger when they don’t even know who the true enemy is. Like Nebuchadnezzar, we are all beasts of a field. Knowing of his glory, we carry on grazing in disbelief. Even those saved are out to pasture in the vastness of his wisdom. Comfort comes in faith that even though we will always fall short, our Lord and Saviour will always lift us up. Knowing Jesus was a gift from God who loved us enough to give us His only begotten son. It is in His name we are saved, and it is through Him that we pray. In Jesus name, Amen.

2 Peter 1:3 “According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue:”

What does “all things that pertain unto life and godliness” mean for you?

For me, what pertains unto life and godliness is the blessing that comes with seeking after God. As I read through His word, and gain a better understanding of who God is by what he has done, I gain stronger faith and also a deeper unders/standing of myself. With each revelation, either coming in the form of a connecting of the dots of Gods design, or deeper understanding of Gods word, I am able to break off another layer of corruption the world has placed over me. Able to become more loving of others, less fearful and more hopeful for the future, less regretful of past and more forgetful of who I was, less anxious about the present and more grateful for now. These are things that pertain unto my life now, thanks to Jesus.

These things in my life are given unto me through faith. “who are kept by the power of God through faith unto salvation ready to be revealed in the last time.” 1 Peter 1:5 KJV. Now these things are not permanent in my life 100% of the time, I’m still a baby in faith. My faith waivers and its due to that wavering , not lack of Gods power, that I go through seasons. I also know that the seasons are there to grow my faith so they go hand in hand. His divine power, which consists of his love for us, his forgiveness, and his wisdom, that we can rest in during hard times knowing he is still with us even when we feel like he is not.

How do we receive all that pertains unto life and godliness?

– By his divine power?

– through the knowledge of him that hath called us?

2 Peter 1:4 “Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.”

What are some of Gods “great and precious promises”?

The promises (epangelia) (used 52xs, 1x as message) used in 2 Cor. 1:20, Romans 15:8,

1 announcement

2 promise

1 the act of promising, a promise given or to be given

2 a promised good or blessing

“For all the promises of God in him are yea, and in him Amen, unto the glory of God by us.”

2 Corinthians 1:20 KJV

“For no matter how many promises God has made, they are “Yes” in Christ. And so through him the “Amen” is spoken by us to the glory of God.”

2 Corinthians 1:20 NIV

Yea (nai)

yea, verily, truly, assuredly, even so

Webster: more than this: not only so but use to introduce a more explicit or emphatic phrase

Amen (amēn)

1. firm

1. metaph. faithful

2. verily, amen

1. at the beginning of a discourse – surely, truly, of a truth

2. at the end – so it is, so be it, may it be fulfilled. It was a custom, which passed over from the synagogues to the Christian assemblies, that when he who had read or discoursed, had offered up solemn prayer to God, the others responded Amen, and thus made the substance of what was uttered their own.
The word “amen” is a most remarkable word. It was transliterated directly from the Hebrew into the Greek of the New Testament, then into Latin and into English and many other languages, so that it is practically a universal word. It has been called the best known word in human speech. The word is directly related — in fact, almost identical — to the Hebrew word for “believe” (aman), or faithful. Thus, it came to mean “sure” or “truly”, an expression of absolute trust and confidence. — HMM

All the promises of God in him are true(in accordance with fact or reality) and assured (protected against discontinuance or change) but more emphatically, and in Christ are firm(strongly felt and unlikely to change) and faithful(steadfast), that from the beginning are of a truth unto the end may it be fulfilled, and by the glory of God are made our own.

“This then is the message which we have heard of him, and declare unto you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all.”

1 John 1:5 KJV

“Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.”

Philippians 4:6 KJV

Be careful: (merimnaō)

1. to be anxious

1. to be troubled with cares

2. to care for, look out for (a thing)

1. to seek to promote one’s interests

3. caring or providing for

“And he said unto his disciples, Therefore I say unto you, Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat; neither for the body, what ye shall put on. The life is more than meat, and the body is more than raiment. And seek not ye what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink, neither be ye of doubtful mind. But rather seek ye the kingdom of God; and all these things shall be added unto you.”

Luke 12:22-23, 29, 31 KJV

“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”

John 3:16 KJV

John 14:23 KJV

Abode (monē)

1. a staying, abiding, dwelling, abode

2. to make an (one’s) abode

3. metaph. of the God the Holy Spirit indwelling believers

“For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.”

Romans 8:38-39 KJV

“Wherefore I will not be negligent to put you always in remembrance of these things, though ye know them, and be established in the present truth. Yea, I think it meet, as long as I am in this tabernacle, to stir you up by putting you in remembrance;”

2 Peter 1:12-13 KJV

I believe the underlying meaning of these two verses is a reminder of the importance of fellowship. Why? Peter is writing to state he will not be negligent in making sure we are reminded of these things (that which was stated in verses up to this point). Though we know them and are placed firmly in “the true notions of God which are open to human reason without his supernatural intervention” which are at hand. The notions of God previously stated are the attributes Peter mentioned that we should add to our faith. These attributes are open to our reasoning without Gods intervention. This meaning free will. We have the choice in all situations how much we are to apply each of these attributes. Take one of the attributes and apply to a situation. Patience ,or perseverance, is an attribute I’m sure most need remembrance of. “And he arose, and rebuked the wind, and said unto the sea, Peace, be still. And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm.” Mark 4:39 KJV. Sometimes our lives can become very hectic and overwhelming. One thing happens after another and with each blow one can become more anxious, confused, or discouraged. In these times of turmoil its hard to remember Gods promises and to find that peace. One can become reactive and make choices before asking God anything.

This is why Peter thinks it is “meet” or wholly conformed to the will of God, as long as he in his flesh, to awaken us by putting us in remembrance of these things. Encouragement is the action of giving someone support, confidence, or hope. Do you see a difference in when trying to give encouragement to someone who is in the body verses not? A fellow brother in Christ is much more accepting of encouragement, especially when the right scripture is given at the right time. While an unbeliever is unreceptive of a simple try to stay positive encouragement. They have no hope. One sees a mountain while the other sees the mountain moved. (My dads situation verses Leons. )

The times when the trials of life seem to pull us out of the spirit and the flesh takes hold is when we need brothers and fellowship. There have been times when I have reached out for encouragement and through the fellowship, not only received but gave encouragement to the other person. An encouraging conversation will consist of instances with one or multiple attributes being applied.

and How often should we try to do this? Always. We should always try to keep ourselves in remembrance by daily study of Gods word. “All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness,” 2 Timothy 3:16 NIV. But also taking time and fellowship to help brothers be reminded as well. “Finally, brothers and sisters, rejoice! Strive for full restoration, encourage one another, be of one mind, live in peace. And the God of love and peace will be with you.”

2 Corinthians 13:11 NIV

“Finally, my brethren, rejoice in the Lord. To write the same things to you, to me indeed is not grievous, but for you it is safe.”

Philippians 3:1 KJV

Grievous: sluggish, slothful, backward

Safe: (asphalēs) 1 firm (that which can be relied on)

1. certain, true

3. suited to confirm

Have you noticed something being repeated often in the Bible?

Why does that stick out to you so often?

Devil knows scripture

Use it and he will flee

“knowing that shortly I must put off this my tabernacle, even as our Lord Jesus Christ hath shewed me. Moreover I will endeavour that ye may be able after my decease to have these things always in remembrance. For we have not followed cunningly devised fables, when we made known unto you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but were eyewitnesses of his majesty. For he received from God the Father honour and glory, when there came such a voice to him from the excellent glory, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased. And this voice which came from heaven we heard, when we were with him in the holy mount.”

2 Peter 1:14-18 KJV

These five verses are full of reminders of the hope that is in Jesus Christ and the clarity the comes with it. How do people prepare for their own death? Write a will for all their belongings, get their affairs in order, maybe rectify relationships, or drop the last straw that breaks the camel’s back. Most are vain attempts at either being able to leave a lasting impression or a “legacy” to be remembered. Then after we pass, obituaries and eulogies are written compiling our highlights and magnifying the good of the people we should be remembering. While Peter prepares the body of Christ for his death, by reminding us of Christ’s glory and majesty. That we will always have these in remembrance.

Recently, while speaking with my daughter, the aspect of my death came up and I explained to my daughter that in the event I was no longer around, she does not have to worry about what she would do without me. Physically I wouldn’t be here but any question she would ask me, my answer is in the Bible. That the Bible is my guide and all the lessons she learns from me I learned from our Father in Heaven through his word. I remind her regularly of this in hopes she sees she will never be alone in this world. The Lord hasn’t shewed me when I will be “putting off my tabernacle” but this is one of the ways I try to keep my lamp full. I believe relieving a child of the fear of losing their parent is a beautiful gift that can only fully be given through the power and knowledge of Jesus Christ.

Peter is reminding all Gods children of this as well. He says we will be able after his death to have these things in always remembrance. Did Peter know that the Bible was going to be written? How did he know that we will have these things after his death? Yes Peter wrote this letter but what was his vision for how it would be kept in remembrance? The canon of the Bible was composed around 380 ad, did Peter know his letter alone would be preserved or that it would be compiled with other letters to become the Holy Bible? The complete canon of Gods word, not the word of Peter or Paul, of God. Peter knew by the power of the Holy Spirit that guided him in writing this letter, that we would be reading this letter hundreds of years later.

Have you had a revelation while reading scripture or listening to a sermon? If not, then maybe this is a revelation that You may need to submit more. When the revelation came, did it feel like brand new information or something that you were reminded of? Something you feel like you knew or should have known. I believe that is the Holy Spirit revealing a part of Jesus to you, the part of you that God created you to be that has been hidden under sin and darkness. It has been brought to light.

Peter continues on to bring more to light by reminding us the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. Reminds us that what has been written of the gospel has not come to us by a third party. That he, himself Peter, was an eyewitness of Jesus’ majesty. They were there in the flesh to witness Jesus receiving, from God the Father, honour and glory. That His voice came down from Heaven stating Jesus is his beloved son, in whom He is well pleased. Do you ask God if He is well pleased with you? Some spend a lot of time thinking if God is pleased how other people are, most times hidden under the veil of “trying to help”. Is that truly the motive? Of course, none can come close to the pleasing to God quality that Jesus is, but glory be to God that it is through grace by faith in what Jesus has done that we are saved. Amen.

“We have also a more sure word of prophecy; whereunto ye do well that ye take heed, as unto a light that shineth in a dark place, until the day dawn, and the day star arise in your hearts: knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation. For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost.”

2 Peter 1:19-21 KJV

We have also a more sure word of prophecy, that no prophecy of the Scripture is of any private interpretation. That a revelation for any mystery that is in the Bible is available to anyone. How? Through the Holy Ghost that spake and moved the holy men of God that gave us scripture. The same Holy Ghost that guided Moses to lead Israel out of Egypt, that prompted Jeremiah to proclaim to Jerusalem, that guided Peter in writing this letter, the same Holy Ghost that was inside Jesus is the same that dwells inside of you. Whereunto you will do well to heed to like a light that shineth in a dark place, the light inside the flesh. We should take heed ( to apply ones self to, attach ones self to, hold or cleave to ) the Holy Spirit inside of us. The Holy Spirit holds the truth that we are reminded of as our flesh reads the Word. We do this until the day dawns and His Glory is revealed, waking up everyday that today could be the day. The day the day star arises in our hearts. Day star or (phôsphoros) means light bringing, giving light, the planet Venus (why?), the morning star, day star. Phosphorus, https://ods.od.nih.gov/factsheets/Phosphorus-HealthProfessional/#:~:text=Phosphorus%2C%20an%20essential%20mineral%2C%20is,body’s%20key%20energy%20source%2C%20ATP.

ATP: A substance present in all living cells that provides energy for many metabolic processes and is involved in making RNA. ATP made in the laboratory is being studied in patients with advanced solid tumors to see if it can decrease weight loss and improve muscle strength. Also called adenosine triphosphate.

I believe that we have to be continually reminded of all this and won’t be fully realized until we are called home. People have said that we see our whole life flash before our eyes before we die. What an overwhelming thought, what will you see if your whole life flashed before your eyes? For me I will see Jesus. All that He has done for me, given me, and showed me. I pray for anyone who has to come to that realization in that moment. Glory be to God for giving the chance for anyone to make that realization available at any time. That anyone can choose that now and set themselves on the right path.

I thank you Father for your Son Jesus and giving Him to us so that through Him we have a chance. Forgive me Father for all the times I forget, and for all the times I need to be reminded of who You are, all that You are capable of, and all that you have promised for those that love You. I thank you Father for Your Spirit and that you allow it to indwell us to guide us and to bring the body together for times of fellowship. In Jesus name we pray, Amen.

I pray Father that when it comes my time that the last thought of me is of You. That my legacy is yours, when people think of me they see you. Just like our existence, the memory of us is temporary but yours is eternal, everlasting. May the story of my life reflect the power that is in your name, Amen
