Describe your life in an alternate universe.
We shouldn’t live in the mental multiverse. Yes there is infinite possibilities to our lives. Each choice we make creates this singular reality. However, other realities of difference choices does not exist. There is only one universe, one reality. When we spend time in the mental multiverse we become lost in this reality.
Take “Doctor Strange 2” for example. A movie about the multiverse. Wanda, the main antagonist, is trying to live in the multiverse or at least transport to a different reality. Regardless of the harmful affects if she would be successful (i.e. an incursion that destroy both realities), the effects from even trying to accomplish this are catastrophic. Wanda used a dark power called the “Darkhold” described as (from Collider.com) “The real Darkhold exists in a temple on Mount Wundagore, where the demon Chthon (remember that guy?) wrote his evil spells onto the walls of the fortress. The spells were later copied down into book form, copies of which exist all throughout the multiverse. But the Darkhold, for all its power and possibilities, is something that corrupts, because it’s rooted in magic that should not be. Forbidden magic. Chaos magic,”
Think about when painting an alternate reality, what emotions are usually involved? Envy, regret, greed, fear, or other negative emotions. One does not, or at times can not, handle the trials or realities of this universe and attempt to live in another one, mentally.
I’ve even done this in the past temporarily with vacations. Go away for a time and pretend it’s a different reality. A time to escape my current life and create a new one for a time. Pretend my problems aren’t current anymore or just escape them for a time. Then come back to reality for every truth to come flooding back, then stagger through hoping and waiting for my next chance to escape.
Truth is there is only one reality. We may be able to change certain aspects of our reality but for the rest one can only change their perspective. Replacing envy and greed with gratefulness, regret with acceptance, and fear with hope.
The greatest change that I made, which has improved my reality is accepted Jesus Christ as my Lord and Savior. By doing this, I can give all my negative emotiona to Him and trust Him, the creator of the entire universe, to create my reality. By truly trusting in God, to provide and to conquer all of my battles, my mind is able to take “mental vacation” to focus on what matters most.
“But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.” Matthew 6:33 ESV
“And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose.”
Romans 8:28 ESV
It’s a struggle at times to remain in the present. Even with hope for the future, a positive expectation can corrode mentality when it doesn’t come to fruition as fast as we want, how we want, or if ever. To be accepting of Gods will means whatever happens it couldn’t happen any other way. Learn from mistakes, accept variables, look for reasons to be grateful, and don’t worry about tomorrow.
If you are going through life with your mind splintered across an endless mental multiverse, think how powerful you could be when solely focused on this one. How often mistakes are made when we try to “multitask” or complete one task while thinking about another. A lot of times when mistakes are made, we are focusing on the wrong thing. Focused on Jesus, Peter was able to walk on water and as soon as he took his focus off Jesus, Peter began to sink.
I pray Father to remain in the present and to focus more on You. To be grateful more, letting go more of what I can’t control, accepting things I don’t understand, and trusting You more. I pray to appreciate the life You designed for me. Help me to overcome my fears and regrets. Help me to be more grateful for what I have and trust You to provide for my needs. Thank you for my life, this reality, and all the time that I get to appreciate it. In Jesus name I pray, Amen.
“Therefore do not be anxious about tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.” Matthew 6:34 ESV
“Trust in the Lord forever, for the Lord God is an everlasting rock.” Isaiah 26:4 ESV
“Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” John 14:6 ESV
“And Jesus cried out and said, “Whoever believes in me, believes not in me but in him who sent me. And whoever sees me sees him who sent me. I have come into the world as light, so that whoever believes in me may not remain in darkness. If anyone hears my words and does not keep them, I do not judge him; for I did not come to judge the world but to save the world.” John 12:44-47 ESV
“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.”
John 3:16 ESV
